North View Academy

Overview

North View Academy continues to be a good school, where pupils with special educational needs and disabilities thrive in a supportive environment. The report highlights strong relationships between staff and pupils, with adults setting high expectations that students consistently meet.

Strengths

• Pupils benefit from a "broad and ambitious curriculum" carefully designed to prepare them for their next educational stage.
• Staff "skilfully support pupils with their individual needs," including those who find communication difficult, ensuring advice from therapists is effectively implemented.
• A "carefully considered approach to the teaching of reading" helps pupils develop fluency by matching books to their interests and known sounds.
• Pupils behave well, moving around the school "calmly and with respect," while bullying is described as "very rare."
• Leaders promote personal development effectively through enrichment activities, such as charity work and community visits, which "enhance pupils’ learning well."

Areas to improve

• In a minority of subjects, the curriculum does not help pupils build on prior knowledge, limiting progress; the school must further develop these areas to ensure pupils "know and remember more over time."

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with an open and positive culture that puts pupils’ interests first.
