Ottershaw Christ Church Church of England Infant School

Overview

Pupils “thrive in this welcoming and nurturing school” where “close relationships and care are at the heart of everything.” The report highlights an “inclusive culture” and “exemplary” behaviour, noting that children are happy and feel safe. Leaders have developed a “well-thought-out and ambitious curriculum” that supports strong achievement, particularly in early years and reading.

Strengths

• “Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary,” with children following school rules conscientiously and staff acting as “excellent role models.”
• Early years provision is outstanding, with children settling “exceptionally well” and developing reading and mathematical skills “exceedingly well.”
• Staff possess a “razor-sharp knowledge of individual pupils’ barriers and needs,” ensuring pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) access the full curriculum effectively.
• Personal development is a strength, with pupils debating moral issues, showing respect, and engaging passionately in community projects like litter-picking.
• “Parents and carers are unwaveringly supportive of the school,” contributing to a positive atmosphere where “everyone in this school always has a smile on their face.”

Areas to improve

• In some subjects, “task design does not match to the school’s intent well enough,” which slows pupils’ learning; the school must support teachers to deliver curricular aims consistently.
• In a few foundation subjects, the school has not identified “well enough the most important knowledge that pupils need to remember over time,” hindering connections to past learning.

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”
