Overview

Prior Heath Infant School is described as a “warm and welcoming” community where pupils feel safe and valued. While safeguarding, attendance, and behaviour meet the expected standard, the report identifies that curriculum delivery and pupil achievement require attention to ensure consistent high-quality outcomes.

Strengths

• Safeguarding standards are met, with an “open culture” where concerns are actively identified and managed.
• Attendance is above national figures, supported by effective tracking and timely support for families.
• Pupils behave well, with “positive and respectful” relationships and rare incidents of bullying.
• Early years provision is strong, with a well-designed curriculum prioritising communication and phonics.
• Leaders work constructively with parents, who “speak highly of the school” and value the care provided.

Areas to improve

• Teachers must ensure lesson activities enable pupils to “build securely on prior learning” and produce consistently high-quality work.
• Leaders should provide regular opportunities for pupils to practise basic skills to prepare them for the next stage of education.
• Highly effective teaching needs to be embedded across the school so all groups, including those with SEND, achieve well.

Safeguarding

The report states that “safeguarding standards are met,” noting that leaders have established an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and pupils are made safer.
