Rocklands School

Overview

Rocklands School continues to be a good school where pupils feel happy, safe, and valued. Leaders maintain high aspirations, delivering a broad curriculum that promotes personal development and prepares pupils for life beyond school.

Strengths

• Pupils enjoy attending school and benefit from "positive and productive relationships with staff and their peers."
• The curriculum is "broad and balanced," with reading at its heart and a strong focus on spiritual, moral, social and cultural education.
• Staff have "secure subject knowledge" and use assessment effectively to identify gaps and shape teaching.
• The school is "well led and managed," with staff who feel supported and value their professional development.
• Parents are "overwhelmingly positive," with all respondents saying they would recommend the school.

Areas to improve

• Curriculum implementation is not consistently strong across all subjects, meaning pupils do not always produce work of the highest standard.
• The new phonics scheme is not yet fully embedded, and not all staff are trained to deliver it effectively.
• In mathematics, staff sometimes move learning on too quickly before pupils have consolidated their understanding.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with a knowledgeable lead and staff who act promptly to protect pupils.
