Rockwood Nursery School

Overview

Rockwood Nursery School is described as a "vibrant" setting where children are "happy and settled." The report confirms that staff "care deeply for children" and maintain "high expectations for children’s achievement," including for those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The school provides a "calm and orderly" environment that successfully prepares children for their "next steps in learning."

Strengths

• Children demonstrate "positive behaviour," learning to "play happily alongside others" and developing confidence when meeting new people.
• The curriculum includes "well-ordered knowledge that builds towards ambitious curriculum goals," ensuring children get off to a "strong start."
• Children with SEND are "supported well," with additional needs identified quickly and acted upon in partnership with external professionals and parents.
• Staff foster communication and language skills effectively, with children enjoying stories, rhymes, and songs, and contributing to "class storybooks."
• The school promotes personal development by encouraging independence, such as children pouring their own drinks and putting on their own coats.

Areas to improve

• The school must ensure staff "implement the curriculum consistently well," as inconsistent adaptation of learning activities means some children "do not learn as well as they could."
• Staff interactions are occasionally "not fully effective," which hinders how well some children build their "knowledge and understanding of new vocabulary."

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
