Basnett Street Nursery School

Overview

Basnett Street Nursery School provides a high-quality education where children settle quickly and are happy. The report highlights an "aspirational and carefully designed curriculum" that effectively supports children’s personal development, which is judged as outstanding. Staff maintain high expectations for behaviour and ensure children are well prepared for the Reception Year.

Strengths

• Children benefit from an "exceptional range of opportunities" that promote personal development, including learning about different cultures and healthy choices.
• The school has "effective systems in place" to accurately identify and support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
• Staff are well trained and use their knowledge to address gaps in learning, particularly in communication and language.
• Children demonstrate positive behaviour, learning to share, cooperate, and make a "positive contribution to their community."
• Governors "challenge and support the school well," and staff value the training and support they receive.

Areas to improve

• The school must ensure staff consistently prioritise the "key knowledge" children need to learn across all activities, as inconsistent prioritisation means some children "do not learn as well as they could."

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
