Woodfield Nursery School

Overview

Woodfield Nursery School has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection. The report confirms that children are happy, confident, and typically move on to primary school ready for the next stage of their learning. Strong relationships between staff and children help them thrive within a broad and ambitious curriculum.

Strengths

• Children arrive with enthusiasm and benefit from "secure relationships" with staff who ensure interactions are "consistently positive".
• The curriculum is "broad and ambitious," helping children, including two-year-olds, to achieve well and develop resilience through outdoor activities.
• Staff receive "high-quality training" and skilfully support children’s independence and emotional development.
• The school prioritises communication and language, using carefully chosen books that reflect the "diverse nature of the setting".
• Governors provide "effective support and challenge," and staff praise measures taken to reduce workload.

Areas to improve

• Staff should develop the expertise to deliver the curriculum consistently well, as some opportunities are not used to "reinforce and deepen important learning".
• The school must ensure gaps in children’s knowledge are identified and addressed in a timely way, as some children do not yet develop a "secure knowledge base".
