Sacred Heart Primary School

Overview

Education Scotland inspectors visited Sacred Heart Primary School and Nursery Class in February 2023. The report highlights that the primary school requires "additional support and more time to make necessary improvements," with evaluations for primary stages rated as "weak." Conversely, the nursery class evaluations were rated as "satisfactory," with praise for its nurturing approach.

Strengths

• The acting headteacher has taken steps to "refocus the work of the school on raising attainment and improving learning and teaching."
• Children "behave well and are pleasant, articulate and keen to learn," responding positively to school awards.
• Practitioners in the nursery employ a "nurturing approach," supporting children to feel "secure, confident and increasingly independent in their learning."

Areas to improve

• Staff must collaborate to ensure all children experience "high quality learning and teaching," improving planning and ensuring entitlement to a "broad curriculum."
• Teachers should "increase their understanding of national expectations" about achievement and improve how they "monitor children’s progress in learning."
• Staff need to improve the "quality of learning through play across the early level" and use progress information more effectively.

Safeguarding

The report does not contain specific narrative details regarding safeguarding arrangements, though it notes that the quality indicator for "Ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion" in the primary stages was evaluated as "weak."
