What Ofsted said about Skegness Infant Academy
Overview
Skegness Infant Academy has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection. This is a happy school where pupils enjoy attending, behave well, and care for one another. The school fosters high aspirations and provides a structured, ambitious curriculum that supports all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
Strengths
- Pupils enjoy reading, supported by staff expertise in phonics, quality texts, and incentives that encourage regular practice at home.
- The curriculum is well-thought-out and structured, with teachers possessing strong subject knowledge and using ‘reading starters’ to help pupils recall previous learning.
- Children get off to a good start in the nursery and Reception, where stimulating activities inspire curiosity, resilience, and exceptional attitudes towards learning.
- Attendance has increased significantly recently, supported by well-established routines and a calm, excited atmosphere where pupils feel staff will help with concerns.
- Staff demonstrate a real sense of unity and clear understanding of the school’s mission, with workload and well-being considered by both the school and the trust.
Areas to improve
- In a few subjects, the curriculum is not designed clearly enough and contains too much content, leading to gaps in pupils’ knowledge; the school should ensure designs help pupils build and retain knowledge over time.
- The curriculum lacks sufficient opportunities for pupils to explore life in multicultural Britain, resulting in a limited understanding of different faiths and cultures; the school should expand opportunities to develop cultural capital.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
