St Anne's Primary School

Overview

St Anne’s Primary School is a Catholic maintained primary school committed to the “holistic development of every child” and promoting equality of opportunity. The inspection found that leaders and staff are dedicated to nurturing the whole child, with teaching described as “well structured and responsive” and almost all children achieving well across the curriculum.

Strengths

• Teaching is “well structured and responsive,” using “active, real-life and multi-sensory approaches” that build on prior learning.
• Recent improvements in music, mental mathematics, and writing have “enhanced the overall quality and breadth of provision” and increased engagement.
• The specialist speech and language classes deliver “highly effective provision,” supporting children’s language development through strong partnerships with therapists.
• Staff professional learning is aligned to school priorities and is having a “positive impact on the children’s learning experiences and outcomes.”
• Children engage regularly in self- and peer-assessment, setting personal targets within a “comprehensive monitoring system.”

Areas to improve

• The school should “review collaboratively the outworking of the school’s vision and values” to foster an ethos that empowers the whole community.
• Staff should reflect on approaches to play-based learning to ensure it is “better informed by observations of the children's learning.”
• The school needs to strengthen aspects of communication within the school community to achieve its vision more universally.

Safeguarding

The report states that “arrangements for child protection align to the current statutory guidance” and that staff are aware of procedures with updated training.
