Stane Primary School

Overview

Education Scotland inspectors visited Stane Primary School in January 2024, finding that children benefit from "calm, purposeful and inclusive learning environments" supported by caring staff. The report evaluates the school’s work on "Learning, teaching and assessment" and "Raising attainment and achievement" as "good," noting that senior leaders effectively track attendance and progress. Inspectors expressed confidence in the school’s capacity to continue improving, meaning no further visits will be made in connection with this inspection.

Strengths

• Children engage positively with school due to "caring and nurturing support" from senior leaders and staff.
• Teachers use "high-quality questioning regularly," helping children talk confidently about their learning and explaining their thinking.
• Senior leaders "track and monitor children’s attendance and progress well," leading to improvements in achievements and attainment.

Areas to improve

• Teachers need to use assessment information better to develop "clearer learning goals" and ensure activities match all children’s needs at the right difficulty level.
• Staff should help children recognise the skills they are developing and create a system to record the "progression of skills" as children move through the school.

Safeguarding

The report states that the nursery class was inspected by Care Inspectorate within the past 18 months and is therefore not part of this inspection.
