The Eresby School, Spilsby

Overview

The Eresby School has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection. The report describes a "highly supportive and inclusive learning environment" where pupils with complex needs feel safe, happy, and valued. Staff demonstrate a "profound understanding" of pupils’ unique requirements, ensuring they are well prepared for the next stage in their lives.

Strengths

• The curriculum is "thoughtfully designed," "ambitious and flexible," and tailored to meet diverse needs through personalised pathways.
• Staff are expert at supporting communication, helping nonverbal pupils engage and older pupils use assistive technology confidently.
• Personal development is supported "exceptionally well," with pupils gaining independence through activities like using public transport, cooking, and enterprise projects.
• The school fosters a love of reading using "multi-sensory adaptations" and real-world applications, aiding vocabulary and fluency.
• Leaders and staff are committed to continuous improvement, with "pupil-focused and sustainable" changes implemented since the last inspection.

Areas to improve

• Staff do not consistently adapt teaching to meet pupils’ needs, meaning some pupils are "less well prepared for the next steps of their learning than they could be."
