The Redway School

Overview

The Redway School continues to be a good school, providing a "happy and caring" environment where pupils feel safe and secure. Leaders are ambitious in delivering a "rich, broad learning experience" tailored to pupils with complex needs, fostering strong relationships and high expectations for behaviour.

Strengths

• Pupils form "warm and trusting relationships with staff" and enjoy a "cheerful start" to the day with established routines.
• Therapy programmes are "integral to their success" and seamlessly incorporated into learning activities.
• Staff expertly support communication development, helping pupils "express themselves" and make clear choices.
• Older pupils benefit from a "college-style atmosphere" in the transitions department, preparing them for life after school.
• Governors now provide "appropriate challenge and support" through rigorous new systems.

Areas to improve

• Leaders must fully embed new processes to monitor pupil progress across the revised curriculum, as they currently lack complete information to decide "the most important next steps for pupils."
• The new programme for teaching foundational reading skills is not yet implemented across the whole school; leaders need to establish this approach for all phases, including older pupils.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with staff who "know children and their families exceptionally well" and established systems for reporting concerns.
