Check the area around this school
32nd of 42 primary schools in Merton we can score, 43 in total — the rest without enough published data. Local and same-phase on purpose: a national table mostly measures who attends.
Narrow the comparison to schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds and it does better still — 5.2/10 against 1,964 of them, against 4.4/10 nationally. Both figures are results only, without the inspection grade. A lower figure here means a stronger comparison group, not a weaker school.
How this is worked out
| Measure | Percentile | Weight | Adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expected standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 64.0 · 49 | 40% | 1.97 |
| Ofsted | 52 | 35% | 1.82 |
| Higher standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 4.0 · 35 | 25% | 0.88 |
Each measure is read as a position among comparable schools, so a school in the middle of the country scores 5. Full method.

Overview
The Sherwood School continues to be a good school, providing a happy and supportive environment where pupils’ rights and responsibilities are central. Leaders maintain high expectations for behaviour and learning, resulting in a calm, orderly atmosphere with little bullying and strong pupil engagement.
Strengths
- A strong reading culture is established, with well-trained staff teaching phonics from Reception and providing targeted support to ensure pupils become "fluent and confident independent readers."
- The curriculum is ambitious and inclusive, incorporating diverse subjects and ensuring pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) receive timely support to access full learning opportunities.
- Staff are "overwhelmingly positive," feeling valued and supported by leaders who prioritise workload management and professional development.
- Pupils benefit from a wide range of enrichment activities, including musical instrument lessons and 'Police Cadet' sessions, fostering resilience and personal safety awareness.
- Behaviour is excellent, with pupils showing respect for one another and demonstrating "resilience and determination" when facing challenging work.
Areas to improve
- In a few subjects, assessment routines are not firmly established, preventing teachers from accurately identifying knowledge gaps and misconceptions, which limits pupil achievement in those areas.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with well-trained staff who know how to spot signs of risk and follow procedures to secure help from external agencies.
