West Winds Primary School and Nursery Unit

Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action, meaning teachers did not cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the ETI states it is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.” The report notes that evaluations are based only on the limited evidence made available at the time.

Strengths

• Questionnaire responses from parents and support staff were “positive about almost all aspects of the life and work of the school.”
• Year six children spoke “enthusiastically about their experiences,” appreciating staff support and after-school activities.
• The school has developed “complementary strategies” to progress children’s social and emotional development.
• The school development plan is “well-informed by the school’s use of a range of internal data.”
• Governors report “confidence in the school leadership team” and in the developing middle leadership team.

Areas to improve

• The report does not list specific areas for improvement, as the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully” outcomes, provision, and leadership due to the lack of teacher cooperation.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” though the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
