Overview

Wetheringsett Church of England Primary School has “taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection.” The report describes a “small, welcoming school” where pupils are happy, behave exceptionally well, and benefit from a “broad and knowledge rich curriculum.” Despite recent challenges from flooding, the school remains a “caring and nurturing community” with high attendance and strong parental support.

Strengths

• Pupils access “exciting trips, clubs and sporting activities,” including popular outdoor learning in the forest school.
• The curriculum is “ordered logically” with staff quickly identifying and addressing gaps in learning through tailored lessons.
• Early years provision is “well-resourced” with high-quality teaching that sets children up with “secure foundations.”
• Support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is prompt, accurate, and ensures full inclusion in school life.
• Reading provision is effective, with a broadened range of books helping pupils build “reading fluency and vocabulary.”

Areas to improve

• A “very small number of curriculum subjects” require further refinement to ensure key knowledge is highlighted and ordered logically.
• In these specific subjects, pupils “do not learn as well” as they do in the rest of the curriculum, requiring careful consideration and effective implementation.
