Whitegate Nursery School

Overview

Whitegate Nursery School is described as a "caring" setting where children arrive happily and possess a "strong sense of belonging." The report highlights a "broad and ambitious" curriculum that prepares children well for primary school, supported by staff who foster "warm and nurturing relationships." While the school maintains high aspirations and effective safeguarding, inconsistencies in curriculum delivery and behaviour management require attention.

Strengths

• Children benefit from "warm and nurturing relationships" with staff who get to know them well.
• Support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is identified as a "strength," with needs identified quickly.
• Communication and language are prioritised, with books prominent and children engaging with "stories, songs and rhymes with interest."
• Staff develop children’s independence early, encouraging them to serve their own lunch and manage self-care skills.
• Parents are "highly positive," noting that staff go "above and beyond" for their children.

Areas to improve

• The school must ensure staff implement the curriculum "consistently well," as variability currently hinders how successfully children build knowledge.
• Staff need better knowledge and confidence to address "low-level behaviour," which currently continues and reduces learning quality.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
