Woodlands Primary School
Tonbridge, TN10 4BB · Kent · primary school
Check the area around this school
152nd of 425 primary schools in Kent we can score, 460 in total — the rest without enough published data. Local and same-phase on purpose: a national table mostly measures who attends.
Narrow the comparison to schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds and it does better still — 7.5/10 against 2,737 of them, against 6.6/10 nationally. Both figures are results only, without the inspection grade. A lower figure here means a stronger comparison group, not a weaker school.
How this is worked out
| Measure | Percentile | Weight | Adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expected standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 74.0 · 76 | 40% | 3.02 |
| Ofsted | 52 | 35% | 1.82 |
| Higher standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 7.0 · 51 | 25% | 1.27 |
Each measure is read as a position among comparable schools, so a school in the middle of the country scores 5. Full method.

How does the school support pupils who are not yet meeting the expected standard in maths? What specific activities are included in the after-school club? How does the school integrate the journalism club into the wider curriculum?
What Ofsted said about Woodlands Primary School
Overview
Woodlands Primary School has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection. The school places great importance on pupils’ enjoyment and happiness, with warm and caring relationships between staff and pupils. Pupils feel safe and are encouraged to be ‘respectful, responsible and resilient’, helping them thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
Strengths
- The carefully designed curriculum is aspirational, building pupils’ knowledge and skills with high expectations for those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
- Reading is a strength of the school, with staff teaching phonics skilfully and systematically to help pupils become fluent and confident readers.
- Staff have strong subject knowledge and implement the curriculum expertly, using engaging experiences to help pupils explain their learning with a secure depth of understanding.
- There is a strong personal development offer, including a well-considered personal, social, health and economic curriculum that promotes culture and diversity.
- Pupils reflect high expectations for behaviour, showing respect for each other and staff, with positive attitudes to learning.
Areas to improve
- Pupils in key stage 1 and lower key stage 2 are not given sufficient opportunities to secure the fundamentals of writing, as teachers do not routinely correct handwriting, spelling and grammar errors.
- The school’s work to reduce persistent absence is not yet as effective as it could be, with absence for disadvantaged pupils remaining too high.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
