Straight answers

A few good questions.

Is it free?

Yes. No charge, no account, no sign-up. The map, the rankings, the shortlist and the assistant all work without you giving us your name or your email.

Where does the data come from?

Official public sources only — GIAS for the register, Ofsted for inspections, the DfE's Explore Education Statistics for results and for applications and offers, local-authority admission arrangements for criteria and catchments, HM Land Registry for house prices, and the ONS postcode directory for locations.

Can the assistant make things up?

It is not allowed to answer an admissions question from its own training data — every figure has to come from a lookup against the database, and it will tell you when the record doesn't hold something. It can still be wrong, and arrangements change, so confirm with the school or the local authority before you apply.

Which schools are covered?

Every open school on the official registers across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — state and independent, nursery through sixth form, including special and alternative provision. The deep admissions layer, with oversubscription criteria, qualifying scores and appeals, is England-only.
