Ampertaine Primary School

Overview

This sustaining improvement inspection was significantly limited by industrial action, as teachers refused to cooperate with the process. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was unable to fully evaluate the quality of education or assure stakeholders of the standards provided. The school is designated as a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• Year 6 pupils spoke “enthusiastically” about developing leadership skills through the school council and ‘playground pals’ scheme.
• Children expressed enjoyment of a “recent curricular, industrial link,” noting that working with local industry makes learning “fun in a real-life context.”
• The senior leadership team cooperated with the inspection regarding safeguarding responsibilities.
• Children report that they “feel safe in school and online” and are aware of procedures for raising safety concerns.

Areas to improve

• The school needs to “continue to update the suite of policies to reflect more fully the current guidance from the Department of Education.”
• The perimeter wall at the front of the school “needs to be secured,” though mitigating risk reduction measures are currently in place.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” but the ETI was unable to fully evaluate their outworking due to the industrial action.
