Armoy Primary School

Overview

The Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was unable to assure parents of the quality of education due to industrial action by teaching staff, who refused to cooperate with the inspection. Consequently, the report states that performance levels for outcomes, provision, and leadership are unavailable, and the school is designated a "high priority for future inspection with no further notice."

Strengths

• Year 6 children spoke positively about their learning experiences and the "wide range of extra-curricular activities on offer."
• Pupils commended "well-established friendships with children from their shared education partnership school."
• Children appreciated the recent introduction of an online application that has "promoted better communication throughout the school community."
• Pupils valued being acknowledged through the "house points system" and the ‘Pupil of the Week’ award.
• Children reported feeling safe and spoke "knowledgeably and confidently about personal safety strategies, in particular, how to stay safe online."

Areas to improve

• The employing authority, governors, and staff must plan for the "sustainability of the school provision and school budget" to address current and future needs.
• The school needs to "continue the ongoing review of safeguarding policies, ensuring they are in accordance with the Department of Education’s guidance."

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements "reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education," though the ETI was unable to fully evaluate their outworking due to the industrial action.
