William Pinkerton Memorial Primary School

Overview

The William Pinkerton Memorial Primary School continues to demonstrate "a high level of capacity for sustained improvement" following a Sustaining Improvement Inspection in March 2019. The report highlights a "skilled, collegial approach to school improvement" and effective partnerships with parents and the community, while noting the need for strategic planning regarding the school’s long-term sustainability.

Strengths

• Staff contribute purposefully to a systematic approach that improves the standard of writing, with most children achieving "very good standards" in accurate and imaginative writing across all genres.
• The school has established a "broad range of links with parents and the community" and external agencies that effectively support children’s holistic development, including emotional health and well-being.
• Projects involving parents and children promote the value placed on "partnership in learning," raising the school’s profile within the local area.

Areas to improve

• The employing authority, school governors, and staff must plan for and manage issues related to the "sustainability of the school provision and school budget" to address current and future needs.
• Health and safety concerns regarding "limited car parking" and an "uneven" playground surface require attention to ensure safe access for children and staff.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements "reflect the guidance from the Department of Education" and that children feel safe and are aware of what to do if they have concerns about their safety or well-being.
