Leaney Primary School

Overview

This sustaining improvement inspection was severely limited because teaching staff participated in industrial action and refused to cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) could not evaluate the quality of learning, teaching, or the school’s capacity for improvement. The report concludes that the ETI is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.”

Strengths

• The principal and designated governor for child protection cooperated with the inspection regarding safeguarding responsibilities.
• Arrangements for safeguarding children “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education.”
• Children met by the inspector “spoke positively about how well they are cared for and supported.”
• Pupils reported that they “feel safe and happy in school” and know whom to contact with safety concerns.

Areas to improve

• The school needs to “complete its development of a relationships and sexuality education (RSE) policy.”
• The external disabled entrance lacks the “appropriate electronic control system.”
• Internal doors lack electronic access controls to enable wheelchair users to access the building independently.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements broadly reflect Department of Education guidance and that children feel safe, though the ETI was unable to fully evaluate the outworking of these arrangements due to the industrial action.
