Carr's Glen Primary School

Overview

This inspection was conducted during industrial action, meaning teaching staff did not cooperate with the process. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was “unable to assure... of the quality of education being provided for the children.” The report states that no performance levels are available for outcomes, provision, or leadership due to the lack of evidence.

Strengths

• Children met by inspectors were “friendly, welcoming and engaged enthusiastically” in discussions.
• Pupils articulated how school roles helped develop “personal and social skills, such as communication, organisation and working with others.”
• Children spoke positively about learning, staff support, and opportunities to act as “digital leaders” supporting peers.
• The school council presented work on creating a “child-friendly version of the school development plan.”
• Almost all parents who responded agreed their children are “making good progress and enjoy learning.”

Areas to improve

• The school needs to “update aspects of its recordkeeping arrangements to reflect more fully the DE guidance” regarding safeguarding.
• The ETI was unable to evaluate the quality of the curriculum, teaching effectiveness, or strategic leadership due to staff non-cooperation.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education” and children feel safe, though the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
