Check the area around this school
94th of 448 primary schools in Lancashire we can score, 481 in total — the rest without enough published data. Local and same-phase on purpose: a national table mostly measures who attends.
Narrow the comparison to schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds and it does better still — 8.5/10 against 2,024 of them, against 7.2/10 nationally. Both figures are results only, without the inspection grade. A lower figure here means a stronger comparison group, not a weaker school.
How this is worked out
| Measure | Percentile | Weight | Adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expected standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 72.0 · 71 | 40% | 2.83 |
| Ofsted | 52 | 35% | 1.82 |
| Higher standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 12.0 · 74 | 25% | 1.85 |
Each measure is read as a position among comparable schools, so a school in the middle of the country scores 5. Full method.

What Ofsted said about Casterton Primary Academy
Overview
Casterton Primary Academy is a happy and welcoming school where pupils feel safe and are eager to learn. Leaders have established strong, positive relationships with parents and created an environment where children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, achieve well. The school has moved on significantly from its previous inadequate rating, with staff feeling valued and proud of their work.
Strengths
- Leaders have designed a "well-thought-out and aspirational curriculum" that links learning to the world of work, helping pupils see its relevance.
- A new phonics programme is delivered consistently, ensuring the "majority of pupils are successful readers by the end of key stage 1".
- Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities are identified quickly and supported effectively, allowing them to "take a full part in the school life".
- Behaviour is sensible and respectful, with pupils appreciating the "fair" behaviour policy and understanding how to resolve issues.
- Staff well-being is prioritised, with leaders implementing changes that reduce workload and make staff feel "appreciated and valued".
Areas to improve
- Leaders must ensure assessment is "consistent and coherent across all subjects" so teachers can clearly identify knowledge gaps.

Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with a "strong culture of safeguarding" where staff receive suitable training and work well with external agencies to keep pupils safe.
