Gilford Primary School

Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action, meaning teachers did not cooperate with the process. Consequently, the ETI states it is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.” The report notes that the school is a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• Children described the school as “very caring” where “everyone is friendly.”
• Year 6 and 7 pupils were “polite and confident,” reflecting thoughtfully on learning experiences.
• Students enjoy numeracy lessons and after-school clubs, including the eco club.
• Children understand their role in writing classroom rules and appreciate behaviour initiatives like the house point system.
• Pupils are “well informed about how to stay safe on line, fire safety and the dangers of drugs.”

Areas to improve

• The employing authority, governors, and staff must plan for the “sustainability of the school provision and school budget” to address current and future needs.
• The ETI was unable to evaluate the quality of the curriculum, teaching, learning, assessment, or care and welfare due to the lack of cooperation.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” though the ETI was unable to fully evaluate their outworking due to the industrial action.
