Ysgol Caer Drewyn

Overview

Leaders and staff provide a “stimulating and purposeful learning environment” with high expectations for pupils. The school fosters strong attitudes to learning, respect, and well-being, ensuring pupils feel “safe and valued” and contribute positively to school life.

Strengths

• Teachers “adapt the teaching and learning very well to meet the needs of learners.”
• A “rich, diverse curriculum” ensures pupils are interested in their learning and work effectively independently and with peers.
• Pupils receive “purposeful opportunities to practise their literacy, numeracy and digital skills well.”
• Leaders have a “good understanding of the needs of their pupils and their families,” fostering positive community relationships.
• “Nearly all pupils make good progress at the school.”

Areas to improve

• Improve opportunities for pupils to develop and make good progress in their Welsh speaking skills, as provision is “less well developed.”
• Strengthen teachers’ feedback and opportunities for pupils to reflect on their work, as their ability to recognise how to improve is “limited.”

Safeguarding

The report states that “pupils feel safe and valued” and that supporting the well-being of pupils is “at the heart of the federation’s vision and values.”
