Ysgol Carrog

Overview

The report describes a school where leaders and staff create a "stimulating and purposeful learning environment" with "high expectations and aspirations" for pupils. Pupils feel "safe and valued," contributing well to school life, while nearly all make "good progress" due to effective teaching and strong community relationships.

Strengths

• Leaders and staff work well together to foster "strong attitudes to learning, respect for others and supporting the well-being of pupils and staff."
• Teachers "adapt the teaching and learning very well to meet the needs of learners," ensuring pupils are interested and work effectively independently and with peers.
• The school offers a "rich, diverse curriculum" that provides "purposeful opportunities to practise their literacy, numeracy and digital skills."
• Leaders have a "good understanding of the needs of their pupils and their families," fostering "positive relationships across the whole school community."

Areas to improve

• The school must "improve opportunities for pupils to develop and make good progress in their Welsh speaking skills," as provision is currently "less well developed."
• Leaders need to "strengthen teachers’ feedback and opportunities for pupils to reflect on their work so that they know what to do to improve," as pupils’ ability to recognise improvement is limited.

Safeguarding

The report states that "pupils feel safe and valued" as a result of the federation’s focus on supporting well-being.
