St Francis' Primary School Aghderg

Overview

This sustaining improvement inspection was significantly limited by industrial action, as staff refused to cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was unable to evaluate the quality of learning and teaching or assure stakeholders of the education provided. The school is designated as a high priority for future inspection with no further notice.

Strengths

• Year 6 pupils spoke enthusiastically about their learning, citing "project work on the Vikings," "mathematics week," and collaborative shared education activities.
• Children enjoy "outdoor learning," sports competitions, and art activities, including visits to their local art gallery.
• Pupils have opportunities to develop leadership skills through the School Council, where they raise funds for charity and help develop the outdoor environment.
• Children create their own classroom rules, which they describe as "sensible and fair."
• The school has been awarded an Eco-School Green Flag and is in its second year of a shared education partnership.

Areas to improve

• The report does not list specific areas for improvement because the ETI was unable to evaluate the lines of inquiry or the quality of learning and teaching due to non-cooperation.

Safeguarding

The school provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements reflect Department of Education guidance, and pupils report feeling safe, though the ETI was unable to fully evaluate the outworking of these arrangements due to the industrial action.
