Hardy Memorial Primary School

Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action, meaning teachers did not cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the ETI states it is “unable to assure” parents of the quality of education and could not evaluate key areas such as outcomes, provision, or leadership. The report notes that no performance levels are available for any aspect of the school’s work due to this lack of cooperation.

Strengths

• Internal data indicates “almost all of the children... achieve in line with or above expectation in English and mathematics.”
• Children develop “a sense of responsibility and leadership skills” through councils and roles like ‘playground buddies.’
• Pupils talk “positively” about group work and feedback that helps them “understand how to improve their work.”
• Children express “enthusiastically” their interest in a “broad range of curricular areas” and after-school activities.
• The principal has developed an “effective and robust cycle of self-evaluation” underpinned by data analysis.

Areas to improve

• The report does not list specific areas for improvement; instead, it states the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully” the quality of the curriculum, teaching, learning, assessment, and safeguarding arrangements.

Safeguarding

The school provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” and children reported they “feel safe,” but the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements.”
