LEIGHTON C.P. SCHOOL

Overview

Leighton Community Primary is described as a "welcoming school" where staff provide an "engaging environment" and prioritise pupil well-being. However, the report concludes that the school is "in need of significant improvement" due to weaknesses in leadership evaluation, teaching quality, and safeguarding systems.

Strengths

• Leaders and governors maintain "positive working relationships" with the whole-school community.
• Staff have "close working relationships" with pupils and create an engaging indoor and outdoor learning environment.
• The curriculum is "broadly suitable" and includes opportunities for pupils to understand their community and Welsh identity.
• Most pupils are "respectful towards staff" and demonstrate a "positive attitude towards learning".

Areas to improve

• Leaders must "improve leadership and self-evaluation" to identify and address areas for improvement more accurately and promptly.
• Teaching needs to improve in pace and challenge, as it does not always engage all pupils or sufficiently develop writing, numeracy, and digital skills.
• The school must address "important shortcomings" in its safeguarding culture and ensure systems are robust enough.

Safeguarding

The report states that the school’s systems for safeguarding pupils are "not robust enough" and there are "important shortcomings in the school’s culture of safeguarding."
