What Ofsted said about Maple Infants' School
Overview
Maple Infants’ School continues to be a good school, providing a nurturing environment where pupils thrive. Leaders have high aspirations for all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, fostering a culture where staff inspire curiosity and pupils enjoy learning. The school prepares children well for their transition into Year 3.
Strengths
- The curriculum is well-designed with clear aims, allowing pupils to build knowledge progressively from strong early years foundations.
- Teachers possess secure subject knowledge and skilfully support pupils in learning key vocabulary, resulting in fluent and accurate reading by the end of Year 2.
- There is a strong culture of keeping children safe, underpinned by respectful working relationships and positive behaviour.
- Leaders provide enriching opportunities, such as clubs and school parliament, while governors hold leaders to account and support staff well-being.
- Pupils learn about different cultures, the rule of law, and online safety through purposeful experiences and age-appropriate programmes.
Areas to improve
- Teachers do not always routinely check what pupils know and can do to adapt teaching, which limits the secure development of some pupils’ knowledge and skills.
- The school should continue to develop staff confidence and expertise in adapting teaching to enable all pupils, particularly those with SEND, to access the curriculum successfully.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
