Overview

The inspection was significantly limited by industrial action, as teachers refused to cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) states it is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education and safeguarding being provided for the children.” The report notes that the school is a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• A group of Year 6 children “spoke confidently and articulately in Irish” about their learning experiences.
• Children reported enjoying the school environment, which enables them to “play safely.”
• Pupils described “positive and supportive working relationships” with staff.
• Children demonstrated they “understand very well how to stay safe online.”

Areas to improve

• The school must “review and update the policies for relationships and sexuality education, intimate care and e- safety” to better reflect Department of Education guidance.
• The employing authority and governors must plan for the “sustainability of the school provision and school budget.”
• Work on security arrangements for access to school grounds needs to conclude “as a matter of urgency.”

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” but the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
