Nercwys VA

Overview

Nercwys Primary is described as a "happy school" where pupils treat others with "politeness and respect" and behaviour is good. The headteacher provides "effective, thoughtful leadership" within a federation structure, fostering a "caring, happy and secure environment" that helps many pupils develop confidence. While younger pupils make good progress in core skills, the report notes that provision does not always allow for the development of independent writing skills.

Strengths

• Pupils are "keen to undertake tasks enthusiastically" and most treat staff and visitors with respect.
• Staff have a "good understanding of pupils’ needs" and prepare "interesting activities that engage pupils’ interests well."
• Younger pupils make "good progress in their language, number and digital skills" and talk confidently about their work.
• Older pupils become "very articulate" and "read well for enjoyment and research."
• The governing body exercises its duties carefully and has a "good understanding of the school’s strengths."

Areas to improve
