Overview

Redwood continues to be a good school where pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities feel happy, safe, and supported. Leaders have designed a well-organised curriculum tailored to individual needs, helping students build secure knowledge and prepare effectively for adult life.

Strengths

• The curriculum is delivered through four tailored pathways, allowing teachers to adapt learning so pupils can "learn the things that they need to know."
• Pupils’ understanding of earlier learning is secure, enabling them to "use and apply their knowledge in different contexts," such as using counting skills in the community.
• Staff support pupils to manage their own behaviour and emotions effectively, with incidents of poor behaviour dealt with "quickly and effectively."
• Students are well prepared for adult life through supported internships, work experience placements, and learning to travel independently.
• Parents describe the support as "amazing" and "inspiring," valuing the commitment of leaders and staff.

Areas to improve

• Leaders should ensure teachers select the most appropriate resources and activities to help pupils remember the intended curriculum, as occasional poor selection "slows pupils’ and students’ progress."

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with robust systems in place to identify at-risk pupils and staff receiving regular training to keep pupils safe.
