Overview

Pupils enjoy their time at this school, where they are safe, have fun and learn well. The inspection found that the school provides a well-organised, ambitious curriculum with high expectations for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Staff are confident in their teaching, and the early years provision is particularly strong, ensuring children are well prepared for Year 1.

Strengths

• Pupils have "warm and respectful relationships" with everyone and share a "sense of kindness throughout the school".
• The curriculum is arranged in a "logical manner" to ensure learning builds upon previous knowledge, with staff modelling "subject-specific vocabulary well".
• Reading and phonics are given high priority; staff teach phonics "consistently well" and ensure pupils falling behind receive "tailored sessions".
• Pupils with SEND are "as engaged and active learners as their peers" and achieve well due to swift identification of needs and appropriate support.
• The early years provision is outstanding, with "highly skilled" staff focusing on communication skills to give children "full access to the rest of the curriculum".

Areas to improve

• Staff do not always respond quickly enough when pupils have finished their learning and are ready for the next steps, meaning pupils "do not make the progress that they could".
• The school should ensure all staff are equipped to "adapt learning in a way that supports all pupils progress through the curriculum".
