Thorneyholme Roman Catholic Primary School, Dunsop Bridge

Overview

Thorneyholme Roman Catholic Primary School has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection. Pupils are described as happy and proud to belong to this welcoming community, where they achieve well academically and enjoy exploring their local rural environment. The school fosters strong positive relationships and provides thoughtful care for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

Strengths

• Pupils are happy, behave well, and build friendships easily in a "welcoming school community".
• Staff provide for differing needs with "thoughtfulness and care", particularly for pupils with SEND.
• Children settle quickly in the early years and develop "confidence and resilience" through outdoor activities.
• Most older pupils are proficient readers who access the curriculum with ease and read widely with enthusiasm.
• The governing body works closely with staff to ensure pupils’ best interests remain at the heart of decision-making.

Areas to improve

• The school should support teachers to develop expertise in delivering refined curriculums and address gaps in pupils’ knowledge consistently, as substantial recent changes have impacted implementation.
• The school should provide support for curriculum leaders to evaluate the impact of the curriculum more clearly, improving clarity on pupil learning and teacher workload management.
