Ysgol Edmwnd Prys

Overview

Ysgol Edmwnd Prys has recently merged into the Bro Tangelli federation, where most pupils enjoy school and behave well. However, inconsistent teaching in the upper years and ineffective self-evaluation processes have led to the school being placed in special measures.

Strengths

• Most pupils are "polite and thoughtful," treating peers and visitors with respect.
• Staff maintain a "close and effective working relationship with pupils" and understand their needs.
• Where teaching is at its best, federation-wide planning creates "stimulating and interesting areas" that support younger pupils to make good progress.
• The headteacher in charge is supported enthusiastically by staff, governors, parents, and pupils in creating a vision for the new federation.

Areas to improve

• Ensure self-evaluation processes thoroughly evaluate pupils’ outcomes to prioritise specific areas for improvement.
• Ensure consistency in effective teaching methods, particularly in the upper years where teachers currently "over-direct learning."
• Provide purposeful opportunities for pupils to apply numeracy and extended writing skills across the curriculum.
