Barnet entrance test format

Each Barnet grammar school runs its own separate test: 1. Queen Elizabeth's School (boys) — two 50-minute multiple-choice papers: English and maths (GL Assessment-based). 2. The Henrietta Barnett School (girls) — TWO ROUNDS: Round 1 is a GL Assessment-based screening test; girls who do well are invited back for Round 2, which uses the school's own internally-set papers (more demanding, written answers). Only Round 2 performance determines offers. 3. St Michael's Catholic Grammar School (girls) — tests English, maths, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning; note the school's Catholic faith criteria also apply in oversubscription. The three tests are separate registrations on separate dates — a girl applying to both Henrietta Barnett and St Michael's sits both schools' exams.

Out-of-area applications

Barnet's three grammar schools each run their OWN separate entrance test and registration — there is no shared Barnet 11+: Queen Elizabeth's School (boys), The Henrietta Barnett School (girls), and St Michael's Catholic Grammar School (girls). Applying to more than one means registering and sitting a test with each school. All three accept applicants regardless of home borough — they draw from across London and beyond, and are among the most oversubscribed schools in the country. Register with each school directly in Year 5 (deadlines vary by school; check each school's admissions page), then apply via your home LA's Common Application Form by 31 October. Criteria impact: Queen Elizabeth's and Henrietta Barnett allocate places primarily by test performance rather than distance. St Michael's is a Catholic school whose oversubscription criteria prioritise baptised Catholic girls — check its faith requirements before applying.
